Jürgen Mehrtens

Jürgen Mehrtens (born April 7, 1912 in Delmenhorst ; † April 15, 2003 in Lübeck ) was a German lawyer and city ​​director of Delmenhorst.

Life

Jürgen Mehrtens was born in 1912 as the son of a teacher in Delmenhorst, where he spent his school days at the boys' school on Kirchplatz and at the secondary school. After graduating from high school, Mehrtens studied law and political science at the Georg August University in Göttingen . In the summer semester of 1931 he joined the Holzminda fraternity . Further studies in Munich , internship in Celle and Berlin , work as a consultant in the Oldenburg Higher Regional Court . He began his working life in Berlin at the Prussian Building and Finance Directorate. He took part in the Second World War , in which he was wounded several times, as a high-ranking officer.

In 1947 he returned to Delmenhorst and joined the city administration. From 1952 to 1969, Mehrtens was City Director of Delmenhorst, then senior city director until his retirement in 1977. Until 1979 he worked as headmaster of the Oldenburg administration school.

Even after his retirement, he held leading positions in many associations and clubs. Among other things, he was chairman of the working group of the free welfare associations, district chairman of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge , DRK district association chief and chairman of the contact group between the military and civil offices. Furthermore, he was chairman of the working group of homeland associations in the Oldenburg landscape , co-founder of the working group on Green Coastal Road , 30 years chairman of the traffic watch in Delmenhorst , 20 years at the tourist office and guild master of the St. Polycarpus guild . Since 1963 he has been involved in the Rotary Club Delmenhorst.
