Jürgen Press (born October 31, 1965 in Ingolstadt ) is a German football coach .
Coaching career
Jürgen Press acquired the B license in 1987 and began his coaching career at MTV Ingolstadt . In 1987/88 he coached the C-Juniors in the District League Upper Bavaria, from 1988 to 1990 the B-Youth in the Bayern League South. In 1989 he had acquired the A license. From 1991 to 1995 he was employed by FC Bayern Munich and coached various youth teams, three years as head coach and one season (1994/95) as assistant coach of the U-19s under Gerd Müller .
Then he went to South America and worked in Cuba , Brazil , Panama and Costa Rica . First he provided development aid (football performance centers in Havana and Pinar del Río in Cuba) and then sat in on Flamengo Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), as well as with Deportiva Alajuelense and Sarprisa (Costa Rica). He also worked from February to March 1997 in the coaching staff of the Panamanian first division club FC Tauro .
After returning to Germany, he became assistant coach of the Bayern division SSV Jahn Regensburg , who rose to the Regionalliga Süd in 1999/00 with head coach Karsten Wettberg . After being promoted again in 2003, this time to the 2nd Bundesliga , he left the club and in 2004 took up the position of coach at the newly founded FC Ingolstadt 04 . He achieved promotion to the Regionalliga Süd with his club. In the second year there, the club still had a good chance of getting promoted in winter. However, Press had become very furious after a game because of what he thought was insufficient support from the fans, and in January 2008 he was released from his duties. The reasons given were poor public appearance and doubts about qualifying for the second division under his leadership.
In 2009 he completed his training as a soccer teacher at the Sport University in Cologne.
For the 2009/10 season he took over the position of coach and sports director at third division club Wacker Burghausen . In the first year under Press' aegis, the club landed in 17th, fourth from last place. After four games in 2010/11 , in which Burghausen only got two points, he was dismissed.
In July 2019 Press became sporting director at the Chilean second division club Deportes Valdivia , and in October 2019 he took over the post of head coach.
