Jürgen Rieber (born March 12, 1965 ) is a German handball referee . Together with Holger Fleisch , he forms the A-team team Fleisch / Rieber.

Jürgen Rieber started as a referee in 1981. Five years later he whistled for the first time together with his current team partner Holger Fleisch. In 1996, both rose to the elite squad of the German Handball Federation (DHB). Since 2001, both have also been used internationally as referees in the European Handball Federation (EHF). In 2009 they were accepted into the elite squad of the EHF. This entitles both of them to direct European Cup matches from the quarter-finals. At DHB level, both whistled over 500 and internationally over 90 games (as of May 2011). On April 11, 2010, Fleisch and Rieber directed the final of the DHB Cup 2009/10 . So far, you have whistled twice in the women's final for the German championship and three times in the women's DHB Cup final.

In 2006, Fleisch and Rieber rejected attempts to bribe Russian officials before a women's Champions League game and immediately reported the matter to the DHB referee by SMS . They also reported the attempted bribery in writing to the EHF, which did not publish the case, but imposed a protective ban on Fleisch and Rieber for several months . When attempts at bribery in international handball became known in 2009 (see for example Frank Lemme / Bernd Ullrich and Uwe Schwenker / Zvonimir Serdarušić ) the EHF let it be known that "not a single allegation of bribery was known and not a single allegation had been reported", Fleisch and Rieber left with their case to the public. Only then did the EHF take on the attempt at bribery three years ago.

In 2011, Holger Fleisch and Jürgen Rieber received the Bernhard Kempa Prize from the Württemberg Handball Association (HVW). In 2013, the team of referees was named referee of the year by the DHB.

Jürgen Rieber works as a seminar leader, lives in Nürtingen , is married and has a daughter.
