Jürgen Schäfer (lawyer)
Jürgen Schäfer (born October 28, 1962 in Darmstadt ) is a German lawyer and a judge at the Federal Court of Justice since 2007 .
Life
Schäfer studied law in Mainz and Tübingen from 1982 to 1987 . From 1988 to 1991 he worked as a research assistant at a chair for civil , commercial and labor law at the TH Darmstadt . At the same time he completed his legal clerkship and passed the second state examination in 1990 .
In 1992 he joined the Hessian judicial service and initially worked as a judge at the Darmstadt Regional Court and then at the Bensheim District Court . In 1994 he returned to the Darmstadt Regional Court. A year later he did his doctorate at the Technical University of Darmstadt on "Alcohol and employment: for the legal management of everyday problems". From 1997 to 2000 he was seconded to the Federal Court of Justice as a research assistant . In 2001 he was promoted to judge at the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt am Main . From 2007 to 2018 he was a member of the 3rd Criminal Senate of the Federal Court of Justice, and since December 15, 2010, as deputy chairman. In January 2018, Schäfer was appointed presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice and took over the chairmanship of the 2nd criminal senate . In November 2018 he took over the chairmanship of the 3rd Criminal Senate.
