Jürgen Storost (born August 20, 1940 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg ) is a German Romance philologist , linguist and historian of science.

Life

He is the son of grammar school professor and Romance scholar Wolfgang Storost (1904–1964). After graduating from high school (1958) at the traditional Wittenberg Melanchthon High School and completing two years of military service, he began to study Romance languages at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . He completed his studies in 1965 with a degree in Romance languages. He then became a research assistant at the Technical University of Chemistry in Merseburg .

In 1972 he did his doctorate at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with the dissertation Studies on the Development of the Chemical Technical Language in French Linguistic History and in 1979 switched to the Central Institute for Linguistics of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR as a research assistant . There he was involved in various research topics until the academy was dissolved. From 1994 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Romance Studies at the University of Potsdam . In 1997 he was called back to the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences as a research assistant.

In 1999 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the 300-year history of Romance language and literature research at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences .

In 2001 Jürgen Storost became a corporate member of the Free University of Berlin and a private lecturer in French lexicology and semantics. In 2003 he retired and worked as a private scholar.
