Jürgen Thölke

Jürgen Thölke (born April 10, 1934 in Bremen ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1974 to 1986 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament . He was also Mayor of Delmenhorst from 1986 to 2001 .

Thölke attended elementary and high school and graduated from high school. He then completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk in the automotive industry. He was a commercial employee until 1960 and then studied economics and social sciences at the University of Göttingen , which he completed in 1965 as a business graduate. Until 1967, Thölke was employed as a commercial manager in the fish industry, until he became a vocational school teacher in Delmenhorst in 1967. Thölke is a member of the Education and Science Union .

From 1972 to 1974 and again from 1976 to 2001 Thölke was councilor and chairman of the environment committee and the youth welfare committee of the city of Delmenhorst. From 1974 to 1986 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament, to which he belonged in the eighth to tenth electoral terms.

On November 4, 1986 Thölke was elected Lord Mayor of Delmenhorst for the first time, and in 1991 and 1996 he was able to repeat the election success. During his term of office, the troops of the Delmenhorst garrison were reduced from approx. 4,050 soldiers to approx. 1,600 soldiers as a result of German unification . Thölke left office in 2001.

Thölke was the initiator and founding member of the Lower Saxony / Bremen municipal association , which was launched on June 14, 1991.
