Jürgen Troe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jürgen Troe (born August 4, 1940 in Göttingen , actually Hans-Jürgen Troe ) is a German chemist who conducts research in the field of physical chemistry . Troe was a professor of physical chemistry at the University of Göttingen and is a "Emeritus Scientific Member" of the Max Planck Society . He has been director at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry since 1990 , and has held a Lower Saxony professorship in Göttingen since his retirement in 2008 .

Live and act

Troe studied physics and chemistry at the Universities of Göttingen and Freiburg. In 1964 he completed his diploma at the University of Göttingen, and in 1965 he received his doctorate in Göttingen. In 1968 he completed his habilitation, also at the University of Göttingen. From 1971 to 1975 he was professor of physical chemistry at EPF Lausanne , and in 1975 he was appointed to a C4 position at the University of Göttingen. In 1990, in addition to his professorship at the university, he was appointed Scientific Member of the Max Planck Society and Director at the MPI for Biophysical Chemistry. In 2008 he retired from the University and the MPI for Biophysical Chemistry. Since 2008 he has been a "Lower Saxony professor", a position that enables emeritus scientists to continue their work.

He deals with the experimental and theoretical investigation of elementary chemical reactions and their kinetics of both molecules and molecular ions over a wide range of pressure, temperature and reaction times. The experimental methods used include, in addition to the usual methods of spectroscopy, laser flash light excitation and thermal excitation with shock waves. The data obtained are entered in databases, for example for applications in astrophysics (such as the Kinetic Data Base for Astrophysics, KIDA). Knowledge of elementary reactions serves as a basis for understanding larger chemical systems and reaction networks (such as combustion in engines, in the atmosphere and in gas clouds in astrophysics) that are composed of them.
