Jürgen Werner (soccer player, 1967)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jürgen Werner II (born April 27, 1967 in Linz ) is a former Austrian national soccer player . The defender reached the ÖFB Cup final with FC Linz in 1994 . His name tag "II", which has been preserved to this day, was given to him because he and his namesake Jürgen Werner I played a major part of his career at SK VÖEST Linz.

Career

Jürgen Werner II made his debut as a defender in the 1986/87 season for SK VÖEST Linz in the 1st division . If he played in the master playoff in the first year, he had to accept the move to the 2nd division in the middle playoff just a year later , where then relegation had to be secured in the relegation playoff. Ultimately, however, Jürgen Werner II, alongside national players Jürgen Werner I and Harald Gschnaidtner in 1991, won the middle playoffs and celebrated their promotion to the 1st division, where the Koksstierler were able to keep their class once after leaving VÖEST .

In the 1993/94 season in the 2nd division, Jürgen Werner II, under coach Walter Knaller, not only managed to return to the 1st division, but also to the ÖFB Cup final , which clearly went 4-0 to Vienna Austria . The defender then came under ÖFB team boss Herbert Prohaska to two international appearances in the Austrian national team in the European Championship qualification in 1996 . After the Linz merger in 1997, Jürgen Werner II went to the Regionalliga Mitte to Union St. Florian , where he worked for a decade. In 2007 he moved to ASKÖ Mauthausen, who played in the North District League (6th division). In June 2010, Jürgen Werner berated the referee and was banned from two competitive games due to this lack of discipline. This meant the end of his activity in Mauthausen. In the 2010/11 season he played for ASK St. Valentin in the District League East before ending his career in the summer of 2011.
