The Zeltinger Band is a rock band from Cologne , which had its greatest successes in the late 1970s / early 1980s. Her best-known songs are Müngersdorfer Stadion , Stüverhoff and Asi mit Niwoh .

Band history

In 1979 Jürgen Zeltinger (completely: Hans Jürgen Maria Zeltinger, called de Plaat - die Glatze ) (born May 25, 1949) joined forces with some musicians to form the Zeltinger Band . In addition to Zeltinger, who took over the lead vocals, the founding members were Ralf Engelbrecht (guitar), Norbert Zucker (bass), Peter Gramen (guitar), Jaki Liebezeit (drums) and Arno Steffen (guitar, vocals). On Weiberfastnacht 1979 the band had their first appearance in the Cologne nightclub "Roxy". The band was so well received that 19 more concerts followed in the remaining carnival days. Drummer Jaki Liebezeit left the Zeltinger Band after a few appearances and was replaced by Uwe "Schruuv" Fuchs. Guitarist Arno Steffen soon devoted himself to other projects.

In August 1979 the first album De Plaat was released live at Roxy & Bunker ; The producer was Conny Plank from Cologne . With the folk song My father was a wanderer and the kölsch / German versions of Lou Reed ( Stüverhoff ) and Ramones songs ( Müngersdorfer Stadion ) there are pieces that are still not missing at any concert of the Zeltinger Band to this day. Müngersdorfer Stadion (B-side tune song ) was released as a single and became the first hit of the Cologne band. In 1980 the studio album Schleimig followed with the single Asi with Niwoh , with the frequently quoted text passage "I polish the food of critics, I make dinner for the band". The second single from Cologne also received good airplay . The somewhat breathless vocals and the Cologne style of Jürgen Zeltinger are typical for almost all songs . In the spring of 1980, the Zeltinger Band went on a joint tour of Germany with the Boomtown Rats and appeared on the ZDF program “Rockpop” and in Alfred Biolek's talk show Kölner Treff .

At the end of 1980 guitarist Peter Gramen left the band and was replaced by Alex Parche . In July 1981 Alex Parche and Kay Wolf left the group. In the years that followed, the three founding members Zeltinger, Engelbrecht and Zucker were repeatedly changed. Manni Hollaender took over the guitar and Edgar "de Gaulle" Liebert the drums. The third, musically heavier album Der Chef bei Ariola followed in 1982 with this line-up . In 1982, the Zeltinger Band did not appear at a concert that had already been booked as part of the ZDF series "Rockpop in Concert" and was subsequently no longer supported by the Ariola record company . As a result of further line-up changes, until 1986 only the single releases, Zeltinger Becomes President , vacation in Hong Kong and Italia, were released . Things only started to improve again in 1986, when a new manager was found in Serdar Boztepe. With Already live again and an extensive tour of Germany, the band returned in 1986 with Alex Parche on guitar and Robbie Vondenhoff on drums. From 1988 the Zeltinger Band followed a musically tougher line, which was reflected in the two albums Neither Human nor Animal (1988) and Ich bin ein Sünder from 1990. At the end of 1990 Alex Parche left the band again. Guitarist Holger Obenaus joined the band as his successor in January 1991.

In 1992 Jürgen Zeltinger devoted himself to other projects and released the album "Solo Plaat", on which Wolfgang Niedecken , among others, participated. Jürgen Zeltinger also worked on the Cologne project against right-wing extremism called " Ass huh, Zäng ussenander ". In 1993 the best of album "Asi with Niwoh - the best of 15 years" was released. Also in 1993, the Zeltinger Band recorded five new tracks, which were released on the CD Rares for Bares - The Weirdest from Fifteen Years, together with old song material. At the turn of 1993/1994, drummer Markus Ulrich suffered a hand injury and was replaced for a few months by Charly T (Charles Terstappen), who had already worked with Westernhagen . In the summer of 1994, an album was released with Scheiße , with which the band returned to their origins. On the CD, produced by guitarist Holger Obenaus and Thomas Hauptmann, Zeltinger sings the Waggershausen title Zu nah am Feuer (Zu nah am Feuer) in a duet with Walter Bockmayer . The title Du bist Scheiße was released as a single from the album . In the same year, the Zeltinger Band recorded the title Ene Mene La le Lu , which appeared on the Cologne compilation Pänz un Bänds un Rock un Roll on EMI.

In 1995 Jürgen Zeltinger declared the band dissolved. In fact, only bass player Norbert Zucker, guitarist Holger Obenaus and drummer Markus Ulrich left the Zeltinger band. Zeltinger continues, however, and brought two old friends back into the band: Alex Parche and Robby Vondenhoff, with TS Crusoe taking over bass. A short time later, Ralf Engelbrecht, the last founding member who remained next to HJ Zeltinger, left the band. In addition to Alex Parche, Ulf Häusgen now played guitar. This was replaced some time later by Stephan Neumeier. In 2003 the live CD Voila! Licking the ass ... with four new studio tracks , which again heralded a harder pace. At the end of 2005 the band released the DVD and maxi CD With naked ass and rock'n'roll . In late 2007 guitarist Alex Parche suffered a stroke. Volker Voigt took his place in the Zeltinger Band. The band received another record deal with EMI and in 2008 released the best-of album Taste, Character, Zeltinger .

To mark the 30th anniversary of the band, a concert was given in October 2008 in Cologne's Live Music Hall. In addition to the current band, the "original line-up" Zeltinger / Zucker / Engelbrecht / Gramen / Wolf / Steffen got together again. The titles "Social Welfare Office", "Rock'n'Roll Fraud" and "(Like a) Tiger" were played. In the latter, the band was reinforced by Ralle Rudnik. In May 2009 the first three albums of the Zeltinger Band De Plaat - Live im Roxy / Bunker , Schleimig and Chef appeared on CD for the first time. In 2009 long-time guitarist Stephan Neumeier left the band. His place was taken by Wolfgang Günnewig, who was already a member of the band in the mid-1980s.

Dennis Kleimann then took the place of the late Alex Parche in the long term, who also runs an unplugged project with Jürgen Zeltinger, which resulted in the 2014 album Avjespeck under the name Zeltinger / Kleimann.
