Jānis Cakuls

Jānis Cakuls (born July 4, 1926 in Rudzāti , today: Līvānu novads ) is auxiliary bishop emeritus in Riga .

Life

The Apostolic Administrator of Liepāja and Auxiliary Bishop in Riga, Pēteris Strods , ordained him as a priest on September 18, 1949 and was incardinated in the clergy of the Archdiocese of Riga . John Paul II appointed him on November 9, 1982 as Apostolic Coadjutor Administrator of Riga and Liepāja and Titular Bishop of Tinista .

The Apostolic Administrator of Riga Julijans Cardinal Vaivods consecrated him on December 11th of the same year as bishop ; Co - consecrators were Kazimirs Duļbinskis , auxiliary bishop in Riga, and Valerijans Zondaks , auxiliary bishop in Riga and Liepāja.

After the death of Julijans Cardinal Vaivod, he succeeded him on May 23, 1990 as Apostolic Administrator of Riga and Liepāja. On May 8, 1991, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Riga. He resigned from his office on June 18, 1993.
