7-Amino-4-hydroxy-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid is one of the aminohydroxynaphthalenesulfonic acids which are important as industrial intermediates for the synthesis of organic, water-soluble dyes .
It has various trivial names , for example I-acid (short for iso-γ-acid) or J-acid (after Paul Julius (1862–1931), director of BASF AG ) and is therefore one of the so-called letter acids .
Extraction and presentation
7-Amino-4-hydroxy-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid can be prepared by alkaline hydrolysis of 2-aminonaphthalene-5,7-disulfonic acid .
use
7-Amino-4-hydroxy-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid is a widely used coupling component in the manufacture of azo dyes . It is important for the production of scarlet-red (monoazo) and red-brown (bisazo) dyes.
