John "Jack" Abbott (born May 25, 1943 in Winsford , † December 2002 in South Cheshire ) was an English football player .

Career

Abbott joined Crewe Alexandra from Winsford United in the early 1960s . In April 1962 Abbott made his debut under coach Jimmy McGuigan as an 18-year-old amateur on the penultimate match day of the 1961/62 season in the Football League Fourth Division in a 3-0 home win against the Tranmere Rovers on the center runner position . Abbott only came to two other competitive appearances in the first team in the season 1964/65 ; first in September 1964 in a game of the League Cup again against Tranmere, in January 1965 a 3-3 draw in the league against AFC Wrexham followed, which was also his last appearance for Crewe. He subsequently played for Oswestry Town in the Cheshire County League .
