Jack Poplin

John S. "Jack" Poplin, Jr. (born 1920 in Los Angeles , California , † October 15, 2007 ) was an American production designer and art director .

Life

Poplin began his career on the film staff in 1950 as an uncredited set designer in the period film The Baron of Arizona by Samuel Fuller . In 1958 he worked for the first time as art director on Anthony Mann's comedy Gottes kleine Acker . 1966 he was for Sydney Pollack Drama voice on the phone along with Hal Pereira , Robert R. Benton and Joseph Kish for the Oscar in the category Best Production Design nominated, but the award went this year to the literary adaptation The Ship of Fools .

Occasionally Poplin also worked for television. Between 1963 and 1965 he worked on 49 episodes of the television series The Outer Limits , for which he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 1964 . In an episode of the series Stoney Burke, he worked as an associate producer in 1963. Most recently, in 1988, he worked on the action film Traxx - Sharp Guns, Hot Cookies , after which Poplin retired from the film business. He died in 2007 at the age of 87.
