John William "Jack" Robinson (born April 22, 1870 in Derby , † October 28, 1931 ibid) was an English football goalkeeper and namesake of the Robinsonade .
career
Jack Robinson began his career at Derby Midland . At the age of 19 he moved to Lincoln City for 2 years. It followed six years with Derby County , for which he played 163 games in the then highest English league, the Football League First Division , and won the runner-up in 1895/96. Robinson not only limited his sporting activity to soccer, but was also active in Derby's baseball department . With this he became English master in 1895 and 1897.
The engagement at Derby County was followed by a year at New Brighton Tower before moving to Southampton in 1898. With this club he reached the FA Cup finals twice and won the Southern League three times . Due to good performance during this time, he was appointed to the English national football team eleven times between 1897 and 1901 . With the national team he was able to win the British Home Championship four times .
Robinson then played for Plymouth Argyle , Exeter City , Millwall FC , Green Waves (Plymouth) and again Exeter City. He ended his career with Stoke City in 1912 and emigrated to the United States for a short time .

Robinsonade
Jack Robinson was known for his daring pike jumps, the so-called Robinsonads. The term describes the defense technique that Robinson had shown in a 6-0 win with Southampton in Vienna against a city selection in 1899. The Viennese audience was so enthusiastic about his flying skills, especially his diving into the corners, that after the game he was ordered to perform a special performance of these pike jumps in the goal. His goal is said to have been shot at with six balls at the same time and yet Robinson parried almost everyone.
The author Willy Meisl tells in his book Soccer Revolution (1955) that after this scenario the term Robinsonade as a name for a spectacular parade spread throughout Europe. The term Robinsonade is rarely found in today's football language.
