Jacob August caretaker
Jakob August Hausmeister (born October 6, 1806 in Stuttgart , † April 17, 1860 in Strasbourg ) was a German Protestant pastor of Jewish origin who was active in the Jewish mission from 1825 .
Life
Jakob Hausmeister was originally supposed to be a watchmaker . In Stuttgart he began to attend Protestant church services, and Ludwig Hofacker's sermons in particular then led to his conversion to Christianity. The baptism took place in Esslingen on November 30, 1825. He then went to Basel, where he was trained by Christian Gottlieb Blumhardt , among others, at the Basel Mission . In 1831 he joined the British " London Jews Society " (LJS). After a short training period in London , he became active in Strasbourg from October 1832 . In 1835 he married Luise, the daughter of his official brother Johann Peter Goldberg. He baptized over 50 Jews, including the later LJS missionary James Baruch Crighton-Ginsburg .
Janitor died on April 17, 1860 in Strasbourg.
