Jacob Curio

Jacob Curio (* 1497 in Hofheim in Lower Franconia ; † June 30, 1572 in Heidelberg ) was a German doctor and mathematician as well as a university professor in Mainz and Heidelberg.

1514 enrolled Curio at the University of Heidelberg and received initially in 1515 the academic degree of Bachelor of Arts at the Philosophical Faculty ; later he achieved his master's degree and was Vice Chancellor of Heidelberg University in 1525 .

He continued his studies at the University of Ingolstadt , where he studied medicine and natural sciences and obtained the title of Doctor of Medicine. In 1540 he was first professor of medicine at the University of Mainz , then rector , before he was appointed to the newly established chair of mathematics in Heidelberg in 1547. From 1553 he taught medicine and in 1560 became dean of the medical faculty and vice-chancellor of the university. After the death of Johannes Wagenmann in 1557, Curio was appointed first professor of medicine. In 1551 Curio was the first married rector of Heidelberg University with papal permission.

After he died in 1572, Curio was buried in the University of St. Peter's Chapel.
