Jacob de Haan (born March 28, 1959 in Heerenveen , Province of Friesland ) is a Dutch composer and musician . He also publishes works under the pseudonyms Dizzy Stratford , Ron Sebregts and Tony Jabovsky .

life and career

Jacob de Haan is the son of a musical instrument maker. Very early on he got piano lessons from Martin Kuipers and cornet lessons from Jan Holtrop in the music school in his hometown. He also played flugelhorn (Bugel) at an early age in the well-known brass band Pro Rege from Heerenveen . At the age of 14 he composed three quartets for brass and a divertimento for flute and piano. At the age of 16 he was appointed organist in a Reformed church in Heerenveen, and he became acquainted with Dutch and international organ literature. This affects his compositions, especially for wind instruments.

He graduated from the Conservatory in Leeuwarden , where he studied school music with Hiepko H. Boer and wind orchestra direction with Henk van Loo and later majored in organ with Piet Post and Jan Jongepier . He then taught at various Dutch music schools. He lives in Rotterdam and mainly devotes himself to composition and arranging .

In 2007, de Haan won first place with his Missa Katharina in a composition competition organized by the Dr. Dazert Foundation in cooperation with the International Music Association and the Euregio via salina . It was premiered on October 21, 2007 in the Ottobeuren basilica .

His brother Jan de Haan is also a composer.
