Jacobus Bergemann

Jacobus Bergemann (born April 30, 1527 in Bernau near Berlin ; † January 27, 1595 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was the personal physician of Elector Joachim II of Brandenburg , professor of Greek, mathematics and medicine at the Brandenburg University of Frankfurt and founding director of Berlin Gymnasium to the Gray Monastery .

Life

Jacobus Bergemann came from a very respected family in the Margraviate of Brandenburg, from which several scholars and pharmacists arose. At the age of 16 he went to the Brandenburg University of Frankfurt , received the prize from the Faculty of Philosophy after just two years and received his master's degree in 1546. Ten years later he became professor of Greek language and mathematics there, doctor of medicine in 1559 and, three years later, personal physician to Elector Joachim II of Brandenburg. His son Johann Georg appointed him in 1574 as the first director of the Berlinisches Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster , the first humanistic educational institution in Brandenburg.

Bergemann was several times dean of the medical faculty and also rector of the university in Frankfurt (Oder).
