Jacques-Louis-César-Alexandre, comte Randon (born March 25, 1795 in Grenoble , † January 16, 1871 in Geneva ) was Marshal of France and Minister of War.

Randon joined the French army early, took part in the campaigns from 1812 to 1814, but was not favored by the Bourbons as the nephew of General Marchand , who had handed Grenoble over to Napoleon I in 1815 .

Promoted to colonel in the African hunters on April 27, 1838 , he played a brilliant role in the battles against the Arabs for ten years and was promoted to lieutenant-général in 1847 . On March 13, 1848, he was entrusted by the provisional government with the direction of Algerian affairs in the War Ministry, but on June 3, he was entrusted with the command of the 3rd Division in Metz .

On January 24, 1851, Louis Napoleon gave him the Ministry of War; J. but the General Government of Algeria . On December 31, 1852 he became a senator, on March 18, 1856 Marshal of France . On May 5, 1859, he received the War Ministry again. Under his administration, the supplies of the army administration for the French intervention in Mexico were completely depleted, and the army deteriorated to such an extent that France was unfit for war in 1866. He was therefore replaced by Niel on January 19, 1867 .

Because of his old age, he received no command in the Franco-Prussian War in 1870 and died on January 16, 1871 in Geneva .
