Jacques Georges Habib Hafouri

Jacques Georges Habib Hafouri (born August 20, 1916 in Damascus , Syria ; † May 4, 2011 ) was the Syrian Catholic Archbishop of Hassaké-Nisibi .

Life

Georges Habib Hafouri received on 28 January 1940, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Hassaké-Nisibi on March 18, 1982. The Patriarch of Antioch , Ignatius Antoine II. Hayek , donated him episcopal ordination on August 13 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Grégoire Ephrem Jarjour , auxiliary bishop in Antioch, and Eustathe Joseph Mounayer , archbishop of Damascus .

On June 28, 1996, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

Georges Habib Hafouri was considered an expert on the life and work of the Doctor of the Church Ephrem of the Syrians .
