Jacques Gounin

Jacques Gounin (* before 1750 in Saint-Avold ; † after 1775 ) was a stone sculptor and wood carver .

Life

Gounin had been employed in Saarbrücken since the beginning of the 1750s under the baroque master builder Johann Friedrich Stengel . It is assumed that they participated in the completion of the interior of the Saarbrücken Castle, which was built between 1738 and 1748. The stone work paid for in 1756 for the exterior of the Saarbrücken Basilica of St. Johann is considered to be secure . There Gounin created five capitals and five window frames as well as a piece between the windows of the projection. When redesigning the courtyards of Blieskastel Castle , he built a pyramid-shaped fountain attachment for the courtyard of the Blieskastel Castle in 1760/61 . as the castle was destroyed in the French Revolutionary Wars.

From the mid-1760s Gounin was employed in the Ludwigskirche . He was responsible for the ornamentation of the church walls, made window frames and column capitals of the facade and the flame vases for the main balustrade. He was also employed in the houses around Ludwigsplatz .

As a wood carver, he worked on the organ case for the Saint-Nabor church in Saint-Avold. In addition, the carvings on the prince's chair as well as the organ case and the lectern in the Saarbrücken Ludwigskirche were made by him.
