Life

Jakob Knecht was the older of two children from Anna and Jakob Knecht-Hürlimann. After attending the primary and district school in Zofingen, he first completed an apprenticeship as a painter and worked in his father's painting business. In 1948 he moved to Geneva . From 1950 he completed military training. In 1952 he traveled to the sculptor and draftsman Franz Pabst (1927–2000) in Paris. There he adopted the French version of his first name, under which he also published his works. A year later he moved to Sweden via Amsterdam , where he worked as a construction painter and met his future wife Karin Samuelsson, whom he married in 1956. In 1959 he moved back to Zofingen and took over his father's business. There was a daughter from the marriage who moved back to Sweden with her mother after the divorce in 1970.

In his artistic work, Knecht turned to drawing and painting as well as the techniques of lithography , woodcut and etching . In 1968 he first took part in the annual exhibition of Aargau artists and in 1969 was accepted into the Society of Swiss Painters, Sculptors and Architects (GSMBA) Aargau. From 1975 he lived with the artist Lisa Stauffer . A year before his death, he published his own texts and drawings in his book Behind the Wings Is Eternity .
