Lisa Imhoof-Stauffer (born January 14, 1931 in Aarau ; † November 14, 2009 , hometown Sigriswil BE) was a Swiss textile artist , painter and draftsman. Her geometric sculptures are close to constructive art .

Life

Born in Aarau, Lisa Imhoof and four siblings grew up in a strictly religious family. In Aarau, she also attended primary and district school. From 1947 to 1952 she attended the graphics class at the Zurich School of Applied Arts . Then she worked as a graphic artist and scientific illustrator and designed sgraffiti , mosaics and glass windows.

She spent the years from 1954 to 1957 in Paris. In 1957 she married the botanist Hans Stauffer, with whom she had three children and who lived in Aarau again. For his scientific publications, she drew small and tiny parts of plants with the help of a binocular loupe . Her husband died in 1965 of an illness he contracted abroad. From 1975 she lived in Zofingen with the painter and draftsman Jacques Knecht (1930–1988). She then moved into a studio in the "Klus" in Küttigen .

From 1967 onwards she restricted herself almost exclusively to the design and weaving of tapestries. She learned this technique by herself. She wove until the end of her life, even if the art of weaving later almost completely disappeared from the art business. When she died, four-fifths of the last work was finished.
