Jacques Loeckx

Jacques Loeckx (born November 2, 1931 in Brussels ; † January 4, 2020 in Cologne ) was a Belgian computer scientist who taught at Saarland University.

life and work

Jacques Loeckx completed an engineering degree at the Université libre de Bruxelles and received his doctorate from the Université catholique de Louvain . He initially worked in industry, but was also a lecturer at the Technical University of Eindhoven in the Netherlands . After 14 years he became a professor at the University of Twente in the Netherlands.

At the beginning of 1972 he accepted a chair for computer science at Saarland University. He worked in the fields of semantics of programming languages and program verification, in which he wrote numerous publications.

Jacques Loeckx worked with colleagues in particular from the Technical University of Munich and the University of Karlsruhe . Between 1980 and 1990 he organized a workshop on the semantics of programming languages ​​in Bad Honnef with Prof. Klaus Indermark from RWTH Aachen University . Between 2009 and 2011 he was involved in a research project on the history of computer science in Belgium.

In addition to his teaching and research activities, Jacques Loeckx also took on various tasks in academic self-administration at Saarland University, e.g. as chairman of the computer science examination office and / or vice dean of the applied mathematics and computer science department.

Jacques Loeckx retired on March 31, 1997. He died on January 4, 2020 in Cologne.
