Jacques Melly (born December 23, 1951 ; resident in Nax , Ayer and Vissoie ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ). He has been a State Councilor for the Canton of Valais since 2009 .

Jacques Melly, born December 23, 1951, is a Swiss politician; Citizens of Nax, Ayer and Vissoie; he is a member of the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP). He has three grown children and lives with his wife in Granges, in the municipality of Sierre.

Political career

Jacques Melly began his political career in 1988 as a member of the CVP in the General Council of the City of Sierre, which he headed from 1989 to 1990 as President. In December 1992 he was elected to the local council, an office he held until 2004. From 1996 to 2000 he was Vice President of the City of Sierre. At the cantonal level, he was elected as a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Valais in 2005, where he chaired the CVP parliamentary group of Central Valais in 2005.

In 2009 he was elected to the State Council of the Canton of Valais, where he has since headed the Department of Transport, Building and Environment. From May 1, 2011 to April 30, 2012 he was President of the Valais State Council.

On March 17, 2013, Jacques Melly was re-elected as a Valais State Councilor (legislative period 2013–2017). On May 1, 2015, he took over the presidency of the State Council of the Canton of Valais for the second time. In the State Council elections in March 2017, Melly was confirmed with 57,482 votes.
