For 10 years he practiced his profession as a lawyer and notary in a law firm in Visp .

Political career

From January 1993 to December 2004, Cina held the office of mayor of Salgesch. In 1993 he was elected as a substitute and in 1997 as a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Valais for the district of Leuk, before he made the leap to the National Council in 1999 . In 2002 he was elected parliamentary group president of the Christian Democratic People's Party in the federal parliament. His party was confronted with the removal of CVP Federal Councilor Ruth Metzler during his tenure as parliamentary group president . Metzler threw Cina, Federal Councilor Joseph Deiss and the President of CVP Switzerland, Philipp Stähelin , in their book Grissini and Alpenbitter. My years as a Federal Councilor suggest that in the Federal Council elections in 2003 I chose a strategy that was too short-sighted.

As a national councilor, Cina has campaigned for numerous issues, including a parliamentary proposal for a law on high-risk sports that was implemented at the Valaisan level in 2007 and finally at the federal level in 2010.

On March 9, 2005, Cina was quietly elected in the second ballot as the candidate with the most votes (46%) in the Valais State Council and then placed his national council mandate in favor of the office of head of the Department of Economics, Energy and Spatial Development (DVER) low. In 2009 he was re-elected in a silent vote in the 2nd ballot as a candidate with the most votes of those not elected in the 1st ballot (40%). In 2013 he was re-elected as third best (36% of the votes). During his twelve years on the State Council, he was its Vice-President in 2009/2010 and 2013/2014 and its President in 2008/2009, 2010/2011 and 2014/2015.
