Jacques d'Amboise (medical doctor)

Jacques d'Amboise (* 1559 ; † 1606 ) was a French surgeon .

He was the son of Jean d'Amboise , the surgeon of the kings Francis I , Henry II , Charles IX. , Franz II. And Heinrich III. He was also the brother of François d'Amboise , the royal lawyer in the Parliament , and Adrien d'Amboise , the royal chaplain and bishop of Tréguier .

He drew attention to himself when he dissected a woman in front of Ambroise Paré and other important surgeons of his time - he was just 20 years old at the time. He became a doctor of medicine, then Heinrich III's doctor. and Heinrich IV. In 1594 he was elected rector of the Sorbonne .

The oath of allegiance that the university swore to Henry IV is the result of the work the Jesuits did under his rectorate. Jacques d'Amboise fought them, among other things, with two speeches before the parliament , on May 12 and July 13, 1594.

He is not a member of the House of Amboise .
