Hunt the Killer is an American-Canadian television film directed by Eric Till in 1992. It is based on the true story of the serial killer John Wayne Gacy and describes the investigation against him.

action

Detective Lt. Joe Kozenczak of Des Plaines , Illinois is investigating the Chris Gant murder (based on the real-life murder victim Robert Piest). The teenager has disappeared without a trace, and Kozenczak suspects businessman John Wayne Gacy. Several teenagers have disappeared in the area. When he finally arrests Gacy, his evidence is deemed inadequate and he must release him. Gacy is also regarded as a respected citizen of the city, which does not make Kozenczak's position any easier. Gacy himself starts a game of cat and mouse with the police. In his distress, Kozenczak even resorts to the help of a fortune teller who actually lets him track down a corpse: Gacy disposed of four of the 33 murder victims in a river, and the police find one of these bodies on a river bank in the forest. A policeman who used to work in a morgue entered Gacy's house under a false identity and reported a strong odor of corpses. Kozenczak has Gacy's house searched and finds the bodies or remains of 29 young men there. Gacy is arrested, charged, and sentenced to death.
