Seasons of Life is a German silent film drama from the year 1915. Under the direction of Franz Hofer play Fritz Achterberg and Mia Cordes the leading roles.

action

One day the farmer's son Werner Volkmann marries Hannchen, the daughter of Jörgen's widow. The marriage goes well and the parents have a boy whom they call Hans. After 22 years, he is celebrating the hen party with the miller's daughter Gretel. Carelessness causes the mill to burn down, and Gretel as well as Hans find their deaths. A dramatic accident also happens to the daughter of the Volkmann couple, who is also called Hannchen: she and her friend, a hunter, are surprised by Werner during a fight in the forest. This is beside himself and wants to defend the immaculate honor of his daughter. The young happiness flees from the angry Papa Hannchens and falls to death in an abyss. Werner Volkmann is accused of causing the disaster and has been put behind bars for ten years after a trial. A broken man, he returns home on Christmas Day and dies.

Production notes

Seasons of Life passed the German film censorship in October 1915 and was banned from young people. The first performance was at the end of December 1915 in the Residenztheater in Karlsruhe. The four-act film was about 1,500 meters long. The melodrama started in Austria-Hungary on December 15, 1916.

It is often wrongly claimed that Hans Albers made his film debut here. This is wrong, however, as Albers did not appear in front of the camera for the first time until 1917. On the other hand, Rita Clermont and Grete Weixler made their film debut under Franz Hofer in 1915, albeit neither in this production.

criticism

In Paimann's film lists is to read: "fabric, game, photos and scenery very well."
