biography
society
El Flaco Belmonte began his professional career in 1955 when just in the Primera División ascended CD Cuautla . After relegation to the Segunda División four years later, he moved to CD Irapuato , where he stayed until the end of his active career in the 1971/72 season. In the same season, Irapuato rose after 18 years of membership in the Primera División in the second division, so that Belmonte had to experience two relegations in his career. In his 17-year professional career, he completed a total of 428 games in the Mexican Primera División.
With a total of 118 competitive goals (106 in the league and 12 in the cup ) Belmonte is the most successful goalscorer in the history of CD Irapuato.
National team
Belmonte made his debut in the Mexican national team on October 20, 1957 in a game against Costa Rica (2-0), which was played as part of qualifying for the 1958 World Cup . How important his participation was, underlines his goal to the 1-0 lead in the 77th minute, which was the basis for Mexico's World Cup qualification. At the 1958 World Cup , he played the preliminary round matches against Wales (1-1) and Hungary (0-4) and again underlined the value of his contribution: in the game against Wales he scored the equalizer just before the final whistle, making Mexico his tenth overall World Cup game remained undefeated for the first time. Since then, the Hagere el Flaco had received another nickname, el héroe de Solna : he scored the goal, which was so important in the history of Mexican football, in the Råsundastadion in the Stockholm suburb of Solna .
