Jair Golan
Jair Golan ( Hebrew יאיר גולן; * 1962 in Rishon LeZion ) is an Israeli politician ( Democratic Israel ) and former major general ( Aluf ) of the Israel Defense Forces .
From December 2014 to May 2017 he was Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the IDF. Previously, he had been the commander of the North Command since 2011 .
Life
Golan began his military service in the Israeli Paratrooper Brigade in 1980 , in which he later also served as a commander. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Tel Aviv University and later a master's degree from Harvard University .
In June 2019, Golan joined the Democratic Israel party, newly founded by Ehud Barak , which later became part of the electoral alliance Democratic Union . Via the Democratic Union list, Golan finally entered the Knesset as a member of the election in September 2019 .
Golan is married and has five children.
