Jakob Bänziger-Tobler

Jakob Bänziger-Tobler († 1657 in Kurzenberg (today Heiden AR ); resident in Herisau ) was a Swiss politician and war captain from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Jakob Bänziger-Tobler was married to a daughter of Andreas Tobler and a nephew of Kurzenberger community Captain Wälti Bänziger . He worked as a landlord and from 1636 as a copier for the Kurzenberg community . As an officer , he was in command of one of the two free flags set up in 1642. From 1647 to 1652 Jakob Bänziger-Tobler was governor of the government of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. His initiative to build a church in Kurzenberg, which was after Thal church, led to violent disputes about the location and ultimately to the division of the community. From 1651 to 1652 Jakob Bänziger-Tobler built the church in Heiden almost single-handedly . His approach earned him the opposition of Landammann Johannes Tanner and the choice of route from the state government in 1652. He was partially rehabilitated by being elected to the choir court in 1654 and to the land registry revision commission in 1655. From 1655 to 1656 he also served as the war captain on Kurzenberg.
