Jakob Balcerak (born August 1, 1979 in Breslau ) is a German chess player .

Life

In 1988 the Balcerak family received an exit permit from Poland to visit relatives in London . On the way there, the trip was interrupted in Paderborn - so they managed to leave for Germany.

Balcerak learned chess at the age of 11 in the school chess group of the Cusanus-Gymnasium in Koblenz . This was done by Professor Dr. Manfred Müller directed. Although it only took place once a week, Balcerak made rapid progress.

The siblings are also successful in chess. His older sister Magdalena (* 1978) played for TSV Schott Mainz in the 2nd women's Bundesliga and his younger brother Philipp (* 1985, highest rating 2378 in June 2015) has already played in the German Bundesliga and several appearances in the Swiss National League A had.

Chess successes

Jakob Balcerak is multiple Rhineland-Palatinate youth champions: U15 (1994), U17 (1996) and U20 (1997). At German championships he finished second in the U15 championship in 1994 behind Jan Gustafsson . At an international youth tournament in Norway in 1996 , he came third.

In 1996 he was accepted into the D / C squad of the German national team. At the European Youth Championship in 2000 in Kallithea (Chalkidiki) , Greece , he acted as a youth coach for the German Chess Federation .

Since November 2000 he has held the title of International Master . He achieved the standards for this in 1999 in Münster at the 5th Münsterland Masters and in 2000 at the Biel Chess Festival and in Polanica-Zdrój .

From 1991 to 1994 he played for SC Koblenz , then moved to SV 03/25 Koblenz for three years until 1997 . From 1998 he played at TSV Schott Mainz , in the 2000/01 season even in the Bundesliga on the first board. For one season he moved to SC Remagen . From 2002 he played for SG Porz and again for Schott Mainz from the 2009/10 season . In the French league, he played for several years in the 2nd division for the Alsatian club Saverne , most recently in 2002.
