Jakob Friedrich von Varendorf (born April 18, 1706 at Gut Rieste near Bersenbrück , † December 13, 1780 in Oldenburg ) was the Oldenburg chancellery director.

origin

Varendorf came from the original in the Bishopric of Osnabrück -based Westphalian noble family Varendorff . He was the son of the landlord Diederich Georg von Varendorf and grew up on the Rieste family estate.

Life

After studying law , he was appointed to the council of the government chancellery in Oldenburg in November 1737 , the highest administrative and judicial authority of the counties of Oldenburg and Delmenhorst , which at that time belonged to the Kingdom of Denmark and were ruled from Copenhagen . Slowly but determinedly he made his career, becoming a real judicial councilor in 1746 , budget councilor in 1754 and finally director of the government chancellery and the consistory with the title of conference council in 1766. At times he had to act as a substitute for the Oldenburg Oberlanddrosten .

In August 1771 the administration was reorganized and the administration of justice was separated from the state administration. There was a significant reduction in the competencies of the government chancellery, as the management of internal administration was transferred to the court chamber and the administration of justice was organized in a higher appeal court. At the same time the position of the office director was canceled. When the counties were transferred to the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf through the Treaty of Tsarskoe Selo , the directorate was reintroduced on February 25, 1774 and Varendorf was given back the position of office director, which he held until his death.

family

Varendorf was married to Henriette Marie Charlotte born on February 7, 1741. Vogt (1723–1776), daughter of the Prussian Privy Councilor Justus Vogt and Maria Catharina born. Pestei, heiress of the Eyhausen estate near Zwischenahn . The son Georg Friedrich von Varendorff (1752-1834), who came from this marriage, became lord of Eyhausen, Oldenburg chamberlain and district administrator. With his son Ernst Friedrich (1795–1872), the male line died out.
