Jacob III (Horn)

Jacob III († August 7, 1531 at Vercelli ) from the House of Horn was Count von Horn . He was the son of Count Jacob II and Johanna von Bruges, who in turn was a daughter of Ludwig von Bruges , Lord von Gruuthuse and Earl of Winchester .

He inherited the county of Horn and the other properties of the family connected with it (Altena, Weert, Neederweert, Kortessem, Wessem, Cranendonck) after many years as a hereditary count in 1530 - after he had been in 1505 with regard to its importance for the government of the Habsburg Netherlands had been accepted into the Order of the Golden Fleece .

Jacob III entered into three marriages, all of which remained childless:

  1. The marriage contract of December 15, 1501 led to the marriage to Marguerite de Croÿ, daughter of Philippe I. de Croÿ , 2nd Count of Chimay and a knight in the Order of the Golden Fleece. She died on February 7, 1514.
  2. The marriage contract of September 4, 1514 led to the marriage to Claudine Bâtarde de Savoie, an illegitimate daughter of Philip II , Duke of Savoy , from his relationship with Bona di Romagnano. She died on May 2, 1528 (family list of the House of Savoy )
  3. In 1530 he concluded his third marriage with the fourteen-year-old Anna of Burgundy (born April 3, 1516), daughter of Adolf of Burgundy , Lord of Beveren and also a knight in the Order of the Golden Fleece ( House of Burgundy ).

When Jakob fell before Vercelli on August 7, 1531, his brother Johann, who had been given church service as a younger son and was still there at that time, succeeded him as Count von Horn. Anna of Burgundy survived Jacob by 20 years; she married Jean V. de Hénin for the second time , 1555 1st Comte de Boussu , Lord of Galmaarden , knight in the Order of the Golden Fleece, and died on March 25, 1551.
