Jakob Saldern Stein Michelsen (born September 30, 1980 in Tønder ) is a Danish football coach . Most recently, he coached the first division club Odense BK in his home country .

Career

Michelsen grew up in Tønder, not far from the German border, and was Hobro IK's coach until 2012 . He was also the coach of the Tanzanian U19s. Before his time in Hobro, he was youth coach at TM Tønder, Kolding FC and IK Skovbakken, where he also looked after the women's team and later the men's first team.

From March 14, 2014 Michelsen Skive IK trained in the third Danish division and led the club to promotion to the second division . In the 2014/15 season he finished eighth in the table with Skive IK. For the 2015/16 season he moved to the first division club SønderjyskE Fodbold for a transfer fee of 100,000 crowns . In the 2014/15 season, the club had won two home games and narrowly escaped relegation. Michelsen finished second in the 2015/16 season and qualified for participation in the second qualifying round for the UEFA Europa League . In the 2016/17 season Michelsen prevailed with SønderjyskE in qualifying for the Europa League against Strømsgodset IF and Zagłębie Lubin and was eliminated in the play-offs with a late goal against Sparta Prague (0: 0/2: 3).

After the resignation of head coach Nanne Bergstrand at the end of the Allsvenskan season in 2016 with the Swedish first division club Hammarby IF , Michelsen became its new coach with a three-year contract from January 2017. Until he took over the new coaching post, he still led SønderjyskE into the winter break of the Danish championship. Michelsen finished ninth in the table with Hammarby IF in his first season as head coach, the best position since 2008. On January 4, 2018, the cooperation was ended.

Michelsen has been coaching the Danish first division club Odense BK in the super league since July 2018 .

Others

Jakob Michelsen is considered a talented coach in Denmark and is dubbed “Mini-Mourinho” based on José Mourinho . This is based on the fact that both Mourinho and Michelsen never played in higher-tier football. Michelsen usually plays with a controlled offensive and a 4-1-4-1 formation. During the game, however, he is flexible and can often lead individually inferior teams to success with simple means. Michelsen can read a game and rationally adjusts his teams to the strengths and weaknesses of their opponents. SønderjyskE Fodbold had often beaten many favorite teams in the 2015/16 season and often caught up with arrears.
