Jakob Sahme

Jakob Sahme (also Jacob Sahm; born May 28, 1629 in Königsberg (Prussia) ; † November 23, 1680 ibid) was a German philologist and Protestant theologian.

Life

The son of the Königsberg councilor of the same name (born November 14, 1579; † June 23, 1641) and his second wife Agnes († May 22, 1627), daughter of the Königsberg chancellery administrator Christoph Althaus, had initially attended the cathedral school in his hometown. After he had studied at the University of Königsberg , at the University of Wittenberg and at the University of Rostock , he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy in Königsberg on April 3, 1655. He then went on an educational trip that took him to Holland and England.

After returning to his homeland, he became professor of Greek in 1658 and professor of rhetoric in 1662. In this capacity he also participated in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg University and was rector of the Alma Mater in the summer semester . Dedicating himself to a theological office, he became archpriest in Bartenstein in 1666 . In 1673 he followed a call as pastor at the cathedral in Kneiphof , thus becoming inspector of the Königsberg schools and assessor of the Samland consistory in Königsberg.

Sahme had married on October 23, 1658 with Dorothea (* March 22, 1641, † February 16, 1703), the daughter of the pastor of the old town, Martin Wolder. Children from marriage come from these:
