Christian Sahme
Christian Sahme (born January 10, 1663 in Königsberg (Prussia) ; † July 26, 1732 there ) was a German Lutheran theologian , mathematician and astronomer .
Life
The son of the Königsberg professor Jakob Sahme and his wife Dorothea, daughter of the pastor of the Königsberg old town Martin Wolder, first attended the school in Kneiphof . In 1679 he moved to the University of Königsberg , where Andreas Hedio , Conrad Vogt , Georg Thegen and Georg Wosegin became his formative teachers. In 1685 he moved to the University of Kiel , where he lectured by Matthias Wasmuth (1625–1688), Heinrich Opitz (1642–1712), Samuel Reyher (1635–1714), Christian Kortholt the Elder. Ä. (1632–1694) and Christoph Franck (1642–1704) frequented. In 1686 he traveled to Hamburg to continue his studies with Esdras Edzardus . He then attended the lectures given by theologians Johann Benedict Carpzov , Johannes Olearius , August Pfeiffer and Valentin Alberti at the University of Leipzig . With Gottfried Kirch and Christoph Pfautz , he worked on mathematics and astronomy.
From Leipzig he moved to the University of Jena where he was accepted into the house of Professor Georg Schubart (1650–1701). He attended the lectures of Erhard Weigel (1625–1699), Kasper Posner (1626–1700), Kaspar Sagittarius (1643–1694), Johann Andreas Schmidt (1652–1726) and Johann Andreas Danz (1654–1727), as well as the theological ones Lectures by Friedemann Bechmann (1628–1703), Valentin Veltheim (1645–1700) and Johann Wilhelm Baier (1647–1695). In Jena, he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy, traveled to Nuremberg and Altdorf in order to complete further training with Johann Christoph Wagenseil (1633–1705) and Johann Christoph Sturm (1635–1703). Then he moved to Holland via Frankfurt am Main, Cologne and Wesel. There he met the scholars of his time, including Burchard de Volder (1643–1709). In 1689 he returned to Königsberg.
Here he gave lectures at the philosophical faculty of the University of Königsberg. In 1694 he became sub-inspector of the alumni and in 1701 professor of mathematics at the grammar school and rector of the Johannesschule in Danzig. In 1702 he returned to Königsberg, where he became pastor at the church in Roßgarten and in 1709 he was archdeacon at the church in Königsberg's old town . After he had been appointed associate professor of theology at the University of Königsberg, he received his doctorate in theology on December 27, 1710. In 1718 he was promoted to fourth full professor. In 1721 he became the third full professor. In this capacity he was dean of the theological faculty eight times. In his mathematical and astronomical research, Sahme dealt intensively with theological references. In addition, Sahmes smaller treatises deal with the shape of the earth, the earthquake, the calculation of the eclipses and the occultations of a star by the moon.
Sahme died in 1732. His body was buried in the professors' vault of the Königsberg Cathedral.
On October 26, 1705 he married Anna Elisabeth (* April 25, 1672; † December 31, 1706), daughter of the royal councilor Albrecht Pegau. His daughter Gertrud Dorothea (born December 3, 1706) married the Hofrat Heinrich Werner on September 26, 1726.
