Caspar Sagittarius (born September 23, 1643 in Lüneburg , † March 9, 1694 in Jena ; also Kaspar Sagittarius ) was a German historian and university professor .

Life

Caspar was the son of the Lüneburg high school rector Caspar Sagittarius (* 1597 in Osterburg; † April 27, 1667 in Lüneburg) and his wife Katharina Jordan (* Braunschweig; † 1647). He was initially trained by his father, attended the school in his hometown and in 1658 the Katharineum in Lübeck . When he graduated in 1662, he was selected to deliver the Oratio Valedictoria (farewell speech). After he had trained with his cousin Johann Christfried Sagittarius during his high school years in Altenburg , he enrolled at the University of Helmstedt on June 19, 1662 , where he studied philosophical and theological sciences. In Helmstedt he attended lectures at the philosophical faculty on politics with Hermann Conring , in physics with Valentin Heinrich Vogler (born September 17, 1622 in Helmstedt; † March 13, 1677 ibid.) And Heinrich Meibom , on rhetoric and geography with Christoph Schrader , on the story with Christian Eberhar (d) t (born November 23, 1619 in Kaltenborn; † April 25, 1678 in Helmstedt), on logic with Andreas Fröling (* February 4, 1629 in Northeim; † August 3, 1683 in Helmstedt) , on ethics with Samuel Rachel and on metaphysics with Heinrich Rixner .

At the theological faculty he attended lectures on the Hebrew language with Johannes Saubert the Younger , dealt with antiquities and church history with Joachim Hildebrand and Peter Musaeus and heard the dogmatic lectures by Balthasar Cellarius and Gerhard Titius (born December 17, 1620 in Quedlinburg ; † June 7, 1681 in Helmstedt). In the meantime he continued his studies at the University of Copenhagen , where Heinrich Ernst (* February 16, 1603 in Helmstedt; † April 7, 1665 in Copenhagen), Thomas Bartholin and Hans Wandal (1624–1675) promoted his education. From Helmstedt he moved to the University of Wittenberg , was at the University of Leipzig , the University of Altdorf and the University of Jena . After completing his studies, he became the school principal in Saalfeld / Saale in 1668 , where he further developed the school there. In the winter semester of 1670 he enrolled as the designated rector of the Saalfeld School in the matriculation of the University of Jena, acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy in 1671 and was admitted to the theological faculty on December 15, 1671.

In 1672 he became a licentiate in theology and then gave lectures at the theological faculty. After his teacher Johann Andreas Bose died, Sagittarius took over his professorship in history in 1674 and received his doctorate in theology on May 14, 1678. As a university teacher at Salana, he also took part in the organizational tasks of the educational institution. He was dean of the philosophical faculty several times and rector of the alma mater in the summer semester of 1683 . With works such as Nucleus historiae Germanicae , Introductio in historiam ecclesiasticam et singulas ejus partes as well as his contributions to the history of Thuringia , he made a contribution to the development of the historical sciences.

Sagittarius married on May 14, 1678 in Jena with Anna Barbara Kummer (born October 8, died October 10, 1635 in Jena; † June 20, born June 24, 1685 Kollegienkirche ibid.), The secretary's daughter and Actuaries of the University of Jena, the Schöppenstuhl and the Faculty of Law Johann Christoph Kummer († July 25, 1641) and his wife Anna Sophia Mylius, who later married Erasmus Ungebaur . His wife was the widow of the Count of Schwarzburg court preacher and archdeacon in Sondershausen Mag.Johann Hoffmann (born August 8, 1630 in Arnstadt; † March 27, 1663 in Quedlinburg) and of October 31, 1664 in Quedlinburg Jena married history professor Johann Andreas Bose.
