Theodoor Jansson ab Almeloveen , also Theodor Jansonius van Almeloveen, (* July 24, 1657 in Mydregt near Utrecht , Holland ; † July 28, 1712 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch doctor, philologist, medical historian, professor of medicine at the University of Harderwijk and a member of the Scholars' Academy " Leopoldina ."

Life

Theodor Jansonius van Almeloveen was initially a general practitioner at Gouda in Holland. Then he became a full professor of eloquence, world wisdom, history and the Greek language at Harderwijk University. He later became a professor of medicine there himself. He was also active as a medical historian.

On May 15, 1692, Theodor Jansonius van Almeloveen was accepted into the Leopoldina as a member ( matriculation number 193 ) with the academic surname CELSUS II .

Theodoor Jansson from Almeloveen was a hobby botanist and worked on the 12-volume work “ Hortus Malabaricus ”, a comprehensive presentation of plants and medicinal plants in the Indian state of Kerala. The work was edited by Hendrik van Rheede , then governor of the Dutch city of Malabar.

As a medical historian, Ab Almeloveen commented on and edited important works by ancient physicians such as the aphorisms of Hippocrates or the works of Celsus and Aurelian .
