Johann Hermann Fürstenau (born June 1, 1688 in Herford , Westphalia , † April 7, 1756 in Rinteln , Lower Saxony ) was a German medic.

Life

Johann Hermann was the son of pastor Johannes Fürstenau (* March 25, 1647 in Herford; † November 18, 1717 ibid.), As well as his wife Modesta Elisabeth Barckhausen (1664- ??) and was baptized on May 27, 1688 in Herford. Fürstenau attended high school in his home town and began studying medicine at the University of Wittenberg on May 10, 1706 . Here Paul Gottfried Sperling , Johann Heinrich von Heucher , Adam Brendel , Heinrich Klausing , Johann Georg Neumann , Gottlieb Wernsdorf the Elder , Caspar Löscher , Konrad Samuel Schurzfleisch , Johannes Balthasar Wernher , Johann Gottfried von Berger and especially Christian Vater became his teachers.

In September 1707 he moved to the University of Jena , where he worked with his brother, the Syndic Dr. jur. Johann Adolph Fürstenau (* October 1683 in Herford; † April 20, 1723 in Jena). In Jena, his studies with Johann Adrian Slevogt , Georg Albrecht Hamberger and Georg Wolfgang Wedel continued until he went to the University of Halle on October 9, 1708 , where Friedrich Hoffmann and Georg Ernst Stahl continued his training. On April 18, 1709 he defended his work Desiderata anatomico-physiologica and was then awarded a doctorate in medicine. He then went back to his hometown, became a doctor there, but made numerous scientific trips through Germany and Holland from there .

From 1717 he practiced again in his hometown, where on June 6, 1717 he married Sophie Eleonore Büsching , the daughter of Johann Ludwig Buesching and Catharina Sophia Walter. In 1720 he accepted a call as professor of medicine at the University of Rinteln , which in 1730 also gave him the professorship for agricultural economics, which was based on the model of the Prussian universities. In 1752 the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Göttingen awarded him a Magister / Doctoral degree. Fürstenau wrote numerous academic writings and journal articles in which he undertook primarily to point out the gaps and deficiencies of the new knowledge in the individual branches of medicine of his time in the form of "desideratis", without, of course, contributing to their filling and correction.
