Jakob Vestergaard (born January 3, 1975 ) is a Danish handball coach .

Career

Vestergaard gained coaching experience in the youth sector at Viborg HK . After working as an assistant coach at the Danish first division club Ikast-Bording EH for a year and a half , he returned to Viborg in December 2006 and became assistant coach of the first division team. His international coaching career began in 2006 when he coached the Australian women's national handball team . In the summer of 2008 Vestergaard took over the coaching position of the women's team at Viborg HK. In summer 2011 he moved to Aalborg Håndbold , and was dismissed in September 2011 after a failed start to the season. In March 2012 he was signed as assistant coach by FC Midtjylland Håndbold until the end of the 2011/12 season . From 2012 to 2013 he then coached the CS Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea women's team in Romania. From July 2014 to February 2015 Vestergaard was the technical director of the Romanian association CSM Bucharest .

From March 16, 2015, Vestergaard was the national coach of the German women's handball team . He was the successor to his compatriot Heine Jensen , whose contract was terminated on January 7, 2015 after finishing eleventh at the 2014 European Women's Handball Championship, retrospectively to December 31, 2014. On March 28, 2016, Vestergaard and the German Handball Federation announced that the contract, which originally ran until the end of 2017, would be terminated by mutual agreement. From summer 2016 to November 2016 he coached the CSM Bucharest club. In summer 2018 he took over the men's team from Randers HH. In September 2018 he moved to the Danish women's first division club Viborg HK.

successes

With Viborg HK , Vestergaard won the EHF Champions League in 2009 and 2010 . With CS Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea he reached the semi-finals in the premier class of European women's handball in 2013 . With Viborg HK he was four times Danish champion and cup winner.
