Philipp Jakob Zeller (born December 1581 in Regensburg ; † December 28, 1620 in Dresden ) was a German sculptor , art turner and ivory carver .

Life

Jakob Zeller is the son of Pankraz Zeller. His father had been working as an art turner at the Saxon court in Dresden since 1583. Jakob Zeller came to Dresden via Freiberg and worked for the Saxon court from September 18, 1610. At that time turned figures and small sculptures were in great demand. He created a large number of high-quality artistic objects, of which the Kunstkammer inventory in Dresden still lists 23 works. Probably the most famous is a centerpiece in the Dresden collections over a meter high. The Green Vault in Dresden exhibits, among other things, a miniature carved pendant with a portrait of Elector Johann Georg I and a large ivory frigate carried by Neptune . On July 10, 1619, he was granted Dresden citizenship .
