Jamal Badawi

Sheikh Jamal Badawi ( Arabic جمال بدوي; born 1939 in Egypt ) is a Muslim preacher living in Canada , a sought-after speaker on Islam, and an Islamic activist. He is a leading figure in Islam in North America (see Islam in the US & Canada ). He has authored numerous books on Islam and founded the Islamic Information Foundation in Canada. Badawi is a member of the Executive Council of the Fiqh Council of North America ( Fiqh Council of North America ), as its Executive Director he the 2014 open letter to al-Baghdadi signed.

After a first academic degree from Ain-Schams University in Cairo , he moved to the USA in the 1960s and completed his studies with a doctorate in business administration from Indiana University Bloomington . Since 1970 he has served as an imam for the Muslim community in Halifax . He mentions Hasan al-Bannā and the Muslim Brotherhood as his source of inspiration . He resigned from an academic position at St. Mary's University in Halifax in 2011.

Jamal Badawi is a leader in many of the most important organizations in the United States and the Global Muslim Brotherhood , including the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), according to Globalmbwatch - a website that discusses, among other things, his role in the governance of the US Muslim Brotherhood . Islamic Society of North America), the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Canada; Council for American-Islamic Relations) and the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA), the Muslim American Society (MAS) and the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR; European Council for Fatwa and Research). He is also a member of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (International Union of Muslim Scholars) of Yusuf al-Qaradawi (see also under the ICCI in Dublin ).

In 2009 Jamal Badawi was included in a "List of the 500 Most Influential Muslims" of the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center in Jordan and the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding in Washington, DC .
