James Burk

James Burk (* 1948 ) is an American military sociologist .

Life

Burk studied sociology at Towson University (BS 1975) and at the University of Chicago (MA 1978, Ph.D. 1982).

From 1981 to 1983 he was Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at McGill University in Montreal. Since 1983 he has been Visiting Assistant Professor to Professor in the Department of Sociology and since 2013 Cornerstone Faculty Fellow at the College of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M University in College Station. His main research interests are military sociology and sociological theory.

Since 1999 he has been on the Board of Editors of Armed Forces & Society magazine . From 2001 to 2003 he was Chair of the Peace, War & Social Conflict Section of the American Sociological Association . Since 2013 he has been President and Chair of the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces and Society in Chicago. He published in u. a. Social Forces , Journal of Military Ethics, and Peace Review .
