Sam C. Sarkesian

Sam Charles Sarkesian (born November 7, 1927 in Chicago , Illinois , † September 26, 2011 there ) was an American officer ( Lieutenant Colonel ) and political scientist . He was a professor at Loyola University Chicago .

Life

Sarkesian studied at The Citadel (BA 1951) military college in Charleston, South Carolina and later earned an MA (1962) and Ph.D. (1969) in Political Science from Columbia University in New York.

He served in the 10th Special Forces Group of the US Army in the Korean War ; with the 11th Airborne Division he was in the FRG and with the 1st Infantry Division in the Vietnam War. In 1970 he retired; his last rank was Lieutenant Colonel .

Sarkesian was an instructor in the Social Science Department of the US Military Academy in West Point, New York and later Professor of Political Science at Loyola University Chicago in Illinois, where he became Chairman of the Department of Political Science . a. on military regimes in Africa; he published numerous books and specialist articles.

Sarkesian was u. a. Member of the American Political Science Association (APSA). From 1982 to 1989 he was Chairman and President of the Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces and Society (IUS) in Chicago. He was also President of the Study Group on Armed Forces and Society of the International Political Science Association (IPSA).

He was married and had three children.
