James Chappell

James William "Jimmy" Chappell (born March 3, 1915 in Huddersfield , United Kingdom , † April 3, 1976 in Pinellas County , Florida , USA ) was a British ice hockey player who, among other things, was Olympic champion in 1936 with his country.

Career

James Chappel emigrated with his family to Ontario, Canada , at the age of 10 , where he played ice hockey for the first time. After the attacker was there for the Oshawa Collegiates and the Whitley Intermediates from 1931 to 1934, he returned to his British homeland in 1935, where he was on the ice for the Earl's Court Rangers in the English National League for the next three seasons . He then played for two seasons for the Scottish teams Fife Flyers and Dunfermline Vikings . With the outbreak of the Second World War , Chappel joined the British Army, in which he served until the end of the war in 1945. He then continued his career as a hockey player and played from 1946 until his retirement in 1949 for the Brighton Tigers in the ENL, whose championship he won with his team in 1947 and 1948. Following his career, he returned to Canada with his family.

Because of his services to British ice hockey, Chappell was inducted into the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993.

International

For Britain Chappell participated in the World Championships in 1937 and 1938 , and the Winter Olympics in 1936 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and in 1948 in St. Moritz in part.
