James Coleman (artist)

James Coleman (* 1941 in Ballaghaderreen , Ireland ) is an Irish conceptual artist . He mainly works with video and slide installations.

James Coleman studied in Dublin at the National College of Art and Design and at University College Dublin . He then spent some time in Paris and London before moving to Milan for around 20 years . Today he lives and works in Dublin again. In June 2006 he received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the National University of Ireland , Galway .

He represented Ireland at the 1973 Paris Biennale . At documenta 12 in Kassel 2007, James Coleman showed the film Retake with Evidence with actor Harvey Keitel .

In 2002 Coleman received the Kurt Schwitters Prize for Fine Art from the Lower Saxony Sparkasse Foundation .
