James Edward Tierney Aitchison

James Edward Tierney Aitchison (born October 28, 1836 in Nimach , India , † September 30, 1898 in Mortlake , Surrey ) was an English doctor , botanist , plant collector and traveler. Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Aitch. "; but it is also the abbreviation “ Aitchis. " in use.

Aitchison received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Edinburgh in 1858 . His travels took him to Afghanistan and Kashmir, among others . In 1881 he became a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and in 1883 of the Royal Society of London .

Honor taxon

The English botanist William Hemsley has the plant genus Aitchisonia from the family of the redness plants (Rubiaceae) named in his honor.
