James H. Clark
James Henry Clark (born March 23, 1944 in Plainview , Texas ) is an entrepreneur in the IT or computer industry.
Life
In 1982 James H. Clark founded Silicon Graphics with a number of Stanford University graduates . Silicon Graphics' first graphics workstations were ordinary terminals , but the company was soon producing newer models that were independent graphics workstations that ran under the Unix operating system and had very powerful graphics hardware. The Unix derivative from Silicon Graphics is known under the name IRIX .
In 1978, together with Edwin Catmull, he developed the Catmull-Clark algorithm , a mathematical method known as Subdivision Surfaces for smoothing organic surface structures in computer graphics .
In 1993, Clark founded Netscape Communications Corporation with Marc Andreessen . In 2004 he was accepted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
Clark owned the luxury yacht Hyperion , the first sailing ship that can be remotely controlled via the Internet . In 2014 he had the 100-foot racing yacht Comanche built in order to set new sailing records.
